Congratulations you have just found out you are an ENFP. This text won’t explain the applications, its uses. That is already gotten. Understanding is there or the reader would not have found the ENFP Forum, nor be reading this text.
The text will give you a better understanding of the MBTI or Myers Briggs very efficiently and quickly. Think of this as a beginners guide.
Concept 1
ENFP is a truncated name for what ENFPs really are. The title ENFP really equals “Ne Fi Te Si/Ni Fe Ti Se”. BUT we call it ENFP for simplicity’s sake.
Concept 2
Using the MBTI is understanding what each two letter combinations mean and how they interact. Each Type has a different arrangement of those two letters. The ISTJ is “Si Te Fi Ne/Se Ti Fe Ni” or our opposite. That is why you will be initially attracted to the ISTJ. These letters are “preferences” or how minds interpret data and input from the world. This is what gives us the Personality Types
Concept 3
The first 4 sets of Preferences are your conscious. mind before the “/”. The second 4 letters are your unconscious. mind. Everyone uses all 8 Preferences to a certain degree. Your first you will like using the most. Your second the second amount the third will show up when it has to. Your fourth as you get older and your last four flare up every now and then and affect your first 4.
Concept 3
Once you understand these functions you will learn to recognize them in others and appeal to them to help. No Preference is better then any other. Someone who is strong in one is weak in an other. To make a solid team you need strength in every area. Extraverted means projections into the world. Introverted means projected into the mind. There are four preferences with two versions of each:
(N - Intuition)
Ne Extraverted Intuition – Sees possibilities, multiple strands of possibility, seeing hidden meanings, seeing may representations of reality at once. Entertain multiple ideas, beliefs, realities and seeing how they can all work together and be true. Seeing connections when there aren’t any. Lateral thinking. Creativity, strategy and concepts emerge in the here and now not as a whole beforehand. Brainstorming and trust what emerges. Enjoy imagination, play with ideas and multiple possibilities. Liking change and differences. When Ne walks into a room they could see many ways the room could be and be used.
Ni Introverted Intuition – Deep vision and understanding. Can make sense of what others see as paradoxical, capricious and contradictory. Has deepest conceptual understanding. Often peridime shifting moments that float from the subconscious. Will often see at a new level, beyond and above what first appears rational. The mind is vortexed in to the subconscious, as if the brain is using processing and a “Eureka” moment ensues. The sense of the future gives confidence and seems to assist those with Ni keep on track and not get discouraged. They see the light at the end of the tunnel and can then do what it takes to get there. Others with out this vision will get discouraged. Developed and use symbols only known to the user of Ni that are compacted packets of massive data, like matrixes.
(S - Sensing)
Se Extraverted Sensing – Being aware of the here and now. Seeing, feeling touching, smelling the physical world as it is. Physical perception. Can now see what is going on and its direct result. Drawn to immediate cause and effect. Notice relevant facts and occurrences in a see of data that others may will miss. Processing what is going on and pulling out the most relevant facts. Seeks more input to get whole picture until Se can see the entire picture or something else captures attention. Se is operating when we freely follow exciting physical implues or instincts as they flow from the back of the mind. At peace, at Zen in the action and movement of the present moment. This Zen, this oneness occurs when we become absorbed in what we do, move, touch, sense around us. The biggest thrill comes when we can instinctively read and react to cues to see how far we can push things in the situation and get what we want.
Si Memory and relating past cause and effect to the present. Stores vast amount of data and feelings and comparing them to the present situation. Words, smells, sights sounds each relate in to past experiences. Noticing little details of difference from times long ago to the present. Often people will touch off plethora of memories. Feelings become permanent attachment to objects and past events. Memories can be so strong that the body physically reacts. As memories come into our mind we can see their linier progression of recall like a video in fast forward or rewind. With Si, there is a great attention to detail. And getting a clear picture of goals and objectives of what is about to happen. There can be a oneness with customs and traditions that seem to allow us to recall past experiences and feelings from generations ago. Si wants to protect what is known and long lasting even if new things may be more efferent or practical. What is new can sever Si’s connections.
(T Thinking)
Te Extraverted Thinking – Bringing order to reality, to the world. Scheduling, planning contingency planning and doing. Te feels at ease bringing logical order to the world. Te likes building and using charts, tables graphs, flow charts and outlines. Te is structure and goal oriented. When becoming developed the Te then seeks to organize and martial people to get things done. Fact based (empirical) thinking is at the core of Te. Sometimes Te will seek to order others and their thoughts. Te easily understands logic and others logic. Te notices when logical steps are missing or when there is inconsistency with logic and reality. Helps the user to compartmentalize aspects of life to accomplish goals.
Ti - Introverted Thinking – Bringing logical order to the mind and ideas. Finding the right words to clearly express an idea perfectly. Ti allows one to ponder and ascertain the essential qualities of something or an idea and noticing the fine distinctions that make it what it is. Ti finds categories of classes and sub principles of general principles. Ti feels at home when problem solving, analysis and refining an idea. Ti makes it a compulsion to understand then improve upon an idea or thought. Ti enjoys taking apart things to see how they work, seeing all sides of an issue. Ti enjoys finding the details in ideas or processes and understanding their ramifications in the logical system. Ti loves finding the focus point in a system where the maximum effect can be had with minimum energy. Can easily see logical inconsistencies in models and statements. Enjoy using highly functioning models, that end up being detailed.
(F – Feeling)
Fe Extraverted Feeling – Understanding and working though the motivations of others, having the need to connect and bring happiness to others. Keeping a balance of being loved and liked. Fe sees objectives through others eyes. Fe will compel one to act as make others comfortable. Fe wants to know about others, is responsible to care about other’s feelings. Fe mirror others emotions and become one with others that they care about. Easily able to take oneself out of a dynamic and act to bring harmony in many relationships. Fe is able to shift group dynamics to bring order so that others get along with each other.
Fi – Introverted Feeling – Seeks internal harmony, harmony with ideas and feelings. Fi allows the user to be aware of the subconscious and literally feel data and judgments with their gut. It ranks data in importance to values and ethics. The Fi perpetually weighs inbound sensory data and its core issues and responds physically. Fi works silently and its user feels compelled to act upon those feelings with out knowing why. Often when the Fi alerts strongly it is accurate and it assembles vast amount of information and comes to a judgment. It is a far faster response time then logical thinking and allows the user to “know” a certain truth. It functions as a private gauge. Fi allows its users to have an understanding of the core or essence of people quickly.
Summery of Preferences
Ne – See future possibilities at once – connective thinking
Ni – See correct future answer – deep vision
Se – Notice the world, react in the moment correctly
Si – Notice how the past relates to the present, react correctly
Te – Bringing order and structure to the world and others – maximizing external systems
Ti – Bringing order and structure to the mind and ideas – understanding the essence of ideas
Fe – Bringing harmony to external relationships – maximizing external relationships
Fi – Bringing harmony to ideas - understanding the essence of people
Concept 4
Preferences. Everyone uses all eight preferences. The strength of each preference is in the order 1-8. The first four reside in the consciousness, the last four reside mostly in the sub-consciousness.
- Leading Role (Dominate or Hero Role) - Our strongest preference taking the least energy to use, thus our most trusted. If not controlled will dominate and cause negative effects on our life. Since we rely on it, it saves us thus giving it a hero like quality that we see seek in others.
- Supporting Role (Auxiliary)- How we make ourselves useful to others after a good while we get comfortable using it and relying on its judgment. Usually into our 20s before we get comfortable using this function.
- Relief Role (Tertiary) - We use this to energize ourselves when tired using our primary. Not active or in control until late 20s. Is how we express creativity. How we enjoy playing.
- Aspirational Role (inferior) - Developed as useful in the mid 30s. Before that using this Preference in the negative. It projects our fears and negatives onto others. We look immature when we use this role. It is very difficult for us. Once developed it serves as inspiration, ideals and purpose.
- Opposing Role – what makes us stubborn and argumentative and narrow in our application of it.
- The Critical Parent Role – How we find weak spots that can hurt and demoralize others. Can be very powerful is used correctly as it finds flaws easily.
- Deceiving Role – when used things seem silly. Also we don’t care about it much and accept we aren’t good at it. Often not trusted.
- Devilish Role – Often when used is destructive to ourselves and others. When used it feels like we slip into it, it takes over and we become an other person. Its appeal comes from the creative power that its self annihilation brings.
Concept 5
The Types
The ENFP (Ne Fi Te Si / Ni Fe Ti Se)
The ENFP prefers to take in data with the Ne which allows us to see possibilities. We then often use our Fi and gut to understand the essence of it. We use Te to be creative and to organize when we need stop day dreaming and our past often makes us feel bad until we develop more. When better developed we can use our Gut feelings to understand people in an instant, our organizational skills to get things done and are motivated by past experiences.
Concept 6
Axis – To simplify the groups your top two dominate Preferences give you the simplest classification? Best way of breaking down the types is
NT – The Rational – seeks independence and rational understanding not emotional
NF – The Idealists – Seeks connection, idealism and harmony
SP – Performers - Seeks fun, connection and creativity
SJ – Guardians - Seeks structure, order and tradition
Concept 7
In relationships each type seeks:
NT – Mindmates
NF – Soulmates
SP – Playmates
SJ – Helpmates
Any two people who are of positive values can have a relationship, either be friends or married. However most readers of ENFP Forum believe that the best communication and values stem from both parties being Ns or Ss.
