It all depends on the situation what I think about & how I interact. If it is a business type setting I can be fairly outgoing/assertive and I am usually thinking about networking and meeting people strategically. If it is truely a social setting and I don't know anyone, I'm very reserved and I usually spend the majority of my time observing people from a corner and figuring out if it is worth my time to stay and hang out with these people (I get pretty bored at parties). If I'm there with friends, I usually hang out with the people I know and once I get tired of all the small talk I find a spot to people watch. I try to avoid large group social settings when at all possible, prefer smaller groups.
I can totally identify with what you said. I network and socialize when I have to, and hang back and people watch when I feel like it.
Where do you find the explanations for the different numbers alysaria? |

The descriptions are on Personalitycafe. Here's the link:
http://personalitycafe.com/enneagram-personality-theory-forum/2704-enneagram-type-underlying-motives.html
As for the variants....I found this description:
Self-preserving types share a strong desire for independence and material security that makes them understand each other well and work together towards attaining the level of material possessions that will make them both feel safe and accomplished. They will also respect each other’s need for privacy and autonomy because they both desire it to a certain extent.
Self-preserving types might frustrate the Social types because of their self-centered approach and lack of sociability. SP people tend to focus on themselves and somewhat reject others - their world is centered around their own person whereas the SO types need to function within a society and relate to its structure. Both types can feel trapped and misunderstood in this relationship.
The Self-preserving will also fustrate the Sexual types whose desire for close connection will be rejected by their need for private space and independence. SP types seek security and are unwilling to compromise it for the sake of new experience. On the other hand, the SX types will push for intensity and adventure and will end up running in circles, leaving both themselves and their SP partner drained and unwilling to continue the relationship. There is an exception to this rule though, if we take the stackings into account, the Sp/Sx types will get along decently well with the Sx/Sp.
Sexual types will connect to each other in an intense, intimate way that will build a powerful bond in a relatively short time. They will share the need for extraordinary experiences, original ideas and fascinating people, but nonetheless their main focus will remain on each other and their intimacy.
As explained earlier, Sexual types will end up scaring away the more conservative Self-preserving types with their energy and search for intense connections. The latter will feel intruded upon and they will tend to retreat from the relationship, while the SX will be disappointed and probably look in other places to find the thrill and intimacy that they crave. There is an exception to this rule though, if we take the stackings into account, the Sp/Sx types will get along decently well with the Sx/Sp.
Things will get somwehat worse with the Social type, whose main focus is on their social life and the many people that inhabit it. SX types need a deep one-on-one connection while the SO type is constantly looking outside the relatioship to define themselves through their social status, making the SX feel ignored and left aside in the favor of other people that they finally regard as outsiders.
Social types can get along well as they both define themselves and each other by the standards of the society that they belong to. They both know who they are, where they stand and where they’re heading to in relationship to their outer worlds. Choosing a partner becomes easier this way, but only as long as they belong and respond to roughly the same environment. It’s impotant for SO types to find a mate from their own social class or one that they aspire to accede to.
Social types will have trouble maintaining a stable relationship with a Sexual type who will ignore (if not even go against) social rules, traditions and issues such as class and standing.
They will also encounter difficulties with the Self-preserving types, who are far too focused on themselves and their own comfort to attend to society’s requests of them. |

I scored 9 on the similar minds test, which is a ridiculous result!
If I had to pick a result subjectively, I'd probably say I'm a 3, though 5 is a possibility too, since I value intellectual achievement.
I'm definitely not a 1, 2, 6, 8, or 9. I can see a little bit of 4 and 7 in myself, though my lust for knowledge, and joy in victory overshadow them. I defeated my little cousin twice today in air hockey and was like, YES! I won against a seven year-old! WooHoo!

Fives and Nines Fives and nines can seem similar due to the fact that they're both withdrawn types, and neither likes conflict. However, nines tend to try to stay in positive thoughts, "going with the flow," and leaning towards optimism. Fives tend to be negative and cynical, seeing themselves as undermining the beliefs of others. Fives hold themselves aloof, not wanting others to demand too much of them. Nines are agreeable, mediating and accommodating. Both types can have a hard time getting motivated, but fives have trouble because they don't feel prepared to deal with the world, whereas nines don't want any disruption to their routine, wanting to preserve their peace of mind above all else. Fives feel disconnected, nines lose their identity through merging with others. Fives are outside observers to their experiences, watching the details of what's happening while never quite feeling like a participant. Nines dissociate from their experiences, getting lost in fantasies or "spacing out." Threes and Fives Similar to the distinction between threes and fours, this mistype is most common when someone was raised in a household where being well-educated and well-read was considered an important part of good breeding. Threes that were raised in a household where high intellectual achievement was expected may mistype themselves as five due to the intellectual stereotype of fives in the literature. In general, threes tend to be very outgoing, cordial and skilled in the social niceties. Fives tend to be more private, less interested in the social niceties, and not finding much use for the protocols or obligatory activities of their chosen profession. Also, threes can adapt themselves to the interests of the person they're talking to, whereas fives tend to control the conversation more, wanting mostly to talk about whatever their area of expertise is. Threes are pragmatists, and generally are good at knowing how to handle the less glamorous, more practical aspects of their profession in order to reach their goals. Fives, by contrast, tend to consider red tape or unpleasant tasks an intrusion that derails them from what they really want to do. Threes like to stay busy constantly, whereas fives tend to feel overwhelmed easily.
