Stripes, I'm quite enjoying your version of the story. I think I get what you are trying to say about Darcy. He was coming across as a jerk because he was really awkward and inexperienced and just happened to choose the most offensive angle to approach his true love. For some reason he assumed that Elizabeth would understand that his love for her must be monumental if he was willing to look past all the obvious negatives of a relationship with her. Let's face it. There were a lot. Poor Elizabeth. To Darcy, saying something like, "I'm better than you. Marry me?" was actually an epic compliment. Am I on the right track, Stripes?
Of course, this also points to how self-depricating ENFPs tend to be. Elizabeth was probably intuitive enough to kind of get that on some level, but it is much more natural for ENFPs to think that people don't actually esteem them very highly. It is much easier to believe that Darcy is a jerk that finds her physically attractive than it is to believe that Darcy is just awkward and actually esteems her truly and highly. That would just be beyond all possible belief. If that thought ever crossed Elizabeth's mind she would have immediately chided herself with, "Really, self?! Mr. Rich-dreamy-high class-arrogant-guy that won't give anyone else the time of day sees past your social class, your horrid family, and even your basic prettiness and actually sees you for who you really are and loves you despite every obvious negative. Psshh, that's ridiculous! You silly girl. Get reality straight in your head. He is just a jerk that is dealing with an annoying attraction to you. Heck, he even said as much! Darn it, I do find myself vaguely attracted to him. It is probably not real attraction though. He is a jerk after all. I probably just want to live in a mansion and be rich like every other shallow girl in the country. Get it together, self. Ok, let's go over and over why he is such a jerk so that we are safe from giving in to any traps or artificiality and are thoroughly armored every time we see him. Yeah."
I mean, all this assumes Elizabeth is an ENFP. I guess we don't know that for sure.
