I would. I'd do my best to make them smart and good looking? Why not?

I would. MY future kids deserve the best.

But it depends on the method. It's like, I'm not going to throw away an egg or abort a fetus and decide it has less of a right to live than any other one. I would feel too bad. :/

O.o that's creepy. Some of my faults and flaws are what make me who I am...and had a big part in shaping my life experiences. Perfection is overrated. Let nature do what it will. ^_^ I've got plenty of awesome genes in there too.

Sign me up for randomness too. Things never work out as planned anyway.

^^ I never thought I'd see an INTJ write that.

Yea...I would've expected something more along the lines of "Why mess with dna that's already perfect?"

akh... I meant to point that out to him, when I first got here. I wasn't sure if it was a pun or something that I didn't get, though, and didn't want to sound too dumb so early on, so I tucked it away til later, and then eventually forgot about it . If it's not a joke, though, you're right; it's normally spelled "divine."

I would enjoy running large-scale experiments involving the creation of enclosed artificial societies populated by specifically chosen or engineered types/ranges of individuals. Other factors, such as hierarchy and environment and social structure etc., would also be manipulated in accordance with a predetermined plan. I think that it would be too costly to run genuinely scientific experiments (repeated tests etc.), but much could surely be learned from such pre-scientific manipulation and observation alone.

I would, on one condition:
If I were completely sure that deciding these things wouldn't cause other problems down the line. If it were purely superficial, sure. However, considering that science is really in it's infancy, I wouldn't trust it with my child's face and or skin color (I have 3 significantly different racial backgrounds)

I have vague feelings of discomfort about the idea - somehow I think if we were to design our children they'd lose some of their individuality - their unique identity...

Have you guys seen Gattaca? Good movie, and it's about this topic. I'd be in favor of removing or lessening the chance of disease, but history has been shaped by flawed people - not perfect ones. Perfection is just boring

Except for cookies, which are both perfect and unboring

Here, here for random genetic pooling as well! I've known some pretty smart and funny folks come out of some pretty screwed up gene pools.

Lol - methinks 'tis neither here nor there ;-) I think the point is that we agree that random genetic pooling wins! Yay for Russian reproduction roulette!
