Aly, I'm glad we both seek the extinction of the overpopulated species known as the North American Office Zombie. Yeah... if we could, um, put any remaining creatures, y'know, in zoos, that would be great, OK?

How did you do a thumbs up? I think we need a "hug" smiley if possible.

Back on topic - I work at home, I despise working in an office.  I've abruptly quit many a job because of some bureaucrap

ENFPs hate bureaucracy and authority, both in principle and in practice.

So true...so very true.

Although, I'm not sure it's good for my long term career prospects.  I'm having a very difficult time pinning something down to do long term.  What is funny is now the thing I've been doing 13 years seems to have become long term in a sneaky way! lol

Article: At what price, a reputation?

Reminds me of the South Park episode where Kenny does anything for money. Aren't these links supposed to be science related?

Nope. Not just science. Just anything interesting.

In the interests of sharing the knowledge (and extending procrastination possibilities) I propose a thread containing links to interesting articles, research etc that we come across. Maybe spark some discussion/debate

I went to a presentation by an astrophysicist Sunday. This is way cool, and it is hard data too. Keep in mind that each of these galaxies contains billions of stars.

Study: Women Can Smell Attraction in Sweat
Updated: Tuesday, 29 Dec 2009, 10:56 AM EST
Published : Tuesday, 29 Dec 2009, 10:55 AM EST

By MIKE BRODY

(MYFOX NATIONAL) - The smell of men's sweat can tell women if they are attracted to them, according to a new study . The study showed that the smell of a man's sweat differs according to what mood he is in and women can pick up on changes that indicate attraction, the Telegraph reports .

Researchers led by Dr. Denise Chen, assistant professor of psychology at Rice University, introduced two types of male sweat to 19 women in their 20s -- one type was labeled "normal," the other "sexual."

Sweat was gathered from polyester pads attached to the armpits of the men. The "normal" sweat was taken during a 20-minute session in which the men were asked to watch educational videos. Then the men watched 20 minutes of an erotic video, during which the "sexual" sweat was gathered.

The women were exposed to the two different scents and researchers indicated that the brain activity of the women showed that they recognized the scents and responded to them.

Dr. Chen said the "sexual" sweat lit up different regions of the participants' brains, leading to the conclusion that the female brain is capable of recognizing the smell of a man who is attracted to her.

A similar study published in 2007 in The Journal of Neuroscience and conducted by researchers at the University of California at Berkeley, found that women who sniffed a chemical found in male sweat experienced "heightened mood, physiological arousal and subjective sexual arousal."

However, a paper entitled "The Smell Report" published on the Social Issues Research Center Web site , claims that men who believe that their "macho," sweaty, body odor is attractive to women are deluding themselves.

thanks, Just.

Do colleges redline Asian-Americans?

SAT SCORES aren’t everything. But they can tell some fascinating stories.

Take 1,623, for instance. That’s the average score of Asian-Americans, a group that Daniel Golden - editor at large of Bloomberg News and author of “The Price of Admission’’ - has labeled “The New Jews.’’ After all, much like Jews a century ago, Asian-Americans tend to earn good grades and high scores. And now they too face serious discrimination in the college admissions process.

Notably, 1,623 - out of a possible 2,400 - not only separates Asians from other minorities (Hispanics and blacks average 1,364 and 1,276 on the SAT, respectively). The score also puts them ahead of Caucasians, who average 1,581. And the consequences of this are stark.

Princeton sociologist Thomas Espenshade, who reviewed data from 10 elite colleges, writes in “No Longer Separate, Not Yet Equal’’ that Asian applicants typically need an extra 140 points to compete with white students. In fact, according to Princeton lecturer Russell Nieli, there may be an “Asian ceiling’’ at Princeton, a number above which the admissions office refuses to venture.
