I know many ENFP who have been or very obsessed with their weights. Recently, a friend of mine revealed to me that she woul starve for days because she was "fat". She has also taken diet pills without considering the health risks. Guys, don't do it! It's very dangerous!

>.> I don't think it's necessarily ENFPs in general....self image is a major issue around middle school and high school age....and if it's damaged, it can have lasting effects. That kind of behavior really requires intervention and professional help. That sounds more like bulimia/anorexia than a simple concern about weight.

I am a huge believer in the mind/body/spirit connection. My body is very important to me - not just for self-image or even other "narcissistic supply" reasons. I feel really crappy when I am not a tip top shape. It is a good way to keep my energy levels in check and not feeling like BLAH. Motivation is hard enough for an ENFP... I could only imagine it being out of shape...I would be useless.

Nah i never really was concerned with my weight - well it never was a problem because i also rode bike to school, so i kept fit. Keeping fit is definitely important. Otherwise your energy levels just go downwards...

Pretty much this.

This is my philosophy exactly!

I have been overweight...and in that time I was depressed. It was only when I got back into shape I started being happy again. I am sure that isnt the same for everyone though (maybe just ENFPs?) xxx

This is interesting. Since i do my sports - since i have finished school and started university i did do less (most of it because i didn't ride bike to school) - i feel much more energy inside me - and i also feel less depressed. By the way, sports is part of therapy if you are having depression. It raises your spirits because endorpins are released once you do it for like 30 minutes. Plus the endorphin high lasts a few hours. Plus, there have been studies that show it lowers anxiety levels (again several hours). On a side note, the "fat burn effect" of sports lasts until a few hours after . All of these must be connected - like your body is producing certain hormones that make those things happen after sport. It makes sense because staying fit was essential in the stone age times - if a big animal comes, you must be fit to either fight it - or run away. Either way you must be in shape. It makes sense that your genes want to reward you for being fit since it raises your - and your genes' - chance for survival.

my motivation and happiness decreases as my weight increases, so for me it cycles until i reach my limit. when i see i have gained too much i get motivated and cut back quite easily...until i get bored of it. Then i'll put on some weight, rinse and repeat.

But i get bored well before i get to a stage where i consider myself properly fit and in great shape, like with most other things i have issues in finishing it off.

Wow, out of all the great things about ENFP's there's one thing that let's you down...

LOW SELF ESTEEM! You guys need a confident booster, you act like a bunch of depresso espresso's when things don't go your way, as fun as you are. Seriously.

It's the paradox of people.... Everyone has some sort of weird contradiction. INTJs are the most confident insecure people....and ENFPs are the most confident self deprecators.

On Thursday I was in my philosophy class and we had a practice debate. The teacher split us into 2 groups and told us the points we'd be arguing. The topic was the death penalty and I was put on the pro side. He required both sides to have a spokesperson....and no one wanted to do so. >.> My team "volunteered" me....and I got up and was just going to read what we wrote down. Then the teacher said I had to start out with a "we the people" sort of introduction, so I kind of got annoyed and was all "FINE! Screw it!" and went full on southern lawyer mode. I slammed my hand against the paper I was reading off of as I began dramatically, "WE the people of the left side of the room BELIEVE that the act of murder, being the most horrific of actions one can take, DESERVES the greatest punishment. And what, I ask you, is a greater punishment than to take the life of the murderer?" I was wearing a red trenchcoat, which I straightened the lapels on as I thanked everyone, then took my seat. I then proceeded to blush furiously and remark on how much of a dork I am.

Fired up and in the moment, I was confident and capable....but as soon as I sat down, wtf was I thinking? I was so ridiculous and silly. Mildly proud of myself, but still embarrassed.

I'm CONFIDENT about mocking myself. XD

And as another example of confidently self-deprecating....a video....

I don't think it's necessarily ENFPs in general....self image is a major issue around middle school and high school age....and if it's damaged, it can have lasting effects. That kind of behavior really requires intervention and professional help. That sounds more like bulimia/anorexia than a simple concern about weight.

I have wondered off and on whether INTJ development can often manifest itself differently in INTJ females than INTJ males, because I might be an INTJ but that doesn't mean I didn't have the stereotypical body image issues seen in middle school/high school, because I did.  I would run 5 miles daily, constantly diet, and still didn't feel I was small enough.  I worked it out, but I'm pretty positive it had to do with a desire to be and act perfectly as a way to make up for my insiginificant sense of self-worth.  Confidence through perfection.

I've gotten called "confident" by several people, once actually pretty recently, but I haven't been able to fully see it.  Yes, I'm confident about the things I feel sure about, but anything else and I'm like a bumbling mess of insecurities deep down and even about the things I'm confident about, I still feel insecure at times.  It's all about being human, I think.  Nobody is pure confidence unless they are a psychopath because being human involves all these feelings and they tend to like to keep us from going to overconfident crazy-town, I've found.

On a similar note, this is pretty relevant and it's pretty good (sorry, I think it's only available in the US): http://www.pbs.org/pov/flawed/full.php
