Do you use illicit substances? What do you think of the war on drugs? If you were master of the universe what would your drug policy look like?

Yes I use illicit substances I think the technical term is pot head. I also have used hallucinogenics and would not be opposed to using more. Although I wouldn't use e or amphetamines.  I think the war on drugs is a load of dog crap that creates more suffering and violence then it seeks to prevent. If I were master of the universe I would legalize every  drug, tax the more dangerous ones, and create an extensive net work of free drug treatment facilities, targeting areas hit hard by the drug trade. I would also create public service announcements that focused more on honesty and less on scare tactics, advocating responsible drug use as opposed to abstinence.

I'm opposed to drug use - I really don't think it can do anything except harm society and the people in it. I recognise that to some point people will do what they want to do, and even if I think it's harmful to them, it isn't my place to try and inhibit that freedom. That said, I hate drugs and don't think they have any place in our culture - I view drug use as a problem, and I keep myself and my friends away from people who I know are currently using drugs. I don't hate druggies, but I'm certainly not willing to trust them with the safety of myself or my friends, and I sure as hell don't want their influence to push myself or my friends to use drugs ourselves. It may seem harsh and unfeeling, but I see genuinely see drugs (even "softcore" drugs like marijuana) as a danger to both the people who use them, and the people who're affected by them. I'm terrified of getting on drugs myself, 'cause I know I'd have no more ability to get off them than the millions of people who try to break the addiction and fail.

The same goes for legalised drugs like tobacco - I keep away from kids at my school who smoke, because I don't want to be exposed to ciggies. With adult smokers I'm not so worried because I'm fairly sure they aren't going to offer me a smoke (in fact the majority of adult smokers I know say to keep the hell away from cigarettes).

...If you were master of the universe what would your drug policy look like?...

Total blanket bans. I know there are people who want to use drugs, and I believe that people should have freedom to do what they want, but only as long as it doesn't harm others. Druggies may not set out to harm other people, but they do - they involve youth in drug use, they hurt their friends and families, they damage their communities. Part of being a member of society is giving up certain freedoms for the shared safety and benefit of all - a mutually beneficial compromise if you will - and drug use runs contrary to that. The harm drugs can and do cause is too high a price to pay for the freedom that is sacrificed in a ban on drugs.

Attempting to legalise drug use while putting controls on it won't work - just as tobacco legislation doesn't work. Kids still end up smoking, poor families still spend huge amounts of money funding parents' cigarette habits, people still die from cigarette-related disease and illnesses. The only reason smoking isn't banned is because it's so widespread that people can't do anything about it. Heavens forbid the same thing happening to drug use.

(Okay, I'm finished ranting now, and I still like you noodle )

No, I do not use them. I used to. I used to use marijuana, acid and alcohol. I no longer use them and am past the statute of limitations, so there is no harm in admitting this.

I thin kthe war on drugs is a distraction from:
-strangulation of rights
-raising of taxes we shouldn't have in the first place

If I were master of the universe the world would be a far different place, but my stance on drugs would be this:
-All drugs would be legal, but you would need a lincense in order to obtain them.
- Those found with drugs and no license would be placed in prison.
-In order to obtain said license, one must prove that they are capable of handling them without causing harm to those around them
- Causing harm to those around you, which includes, but is not limited to, abusing/neglecting your children, pets, property, etc would result in losing your license to obtain drugs.
- In the prison in my universe, one would have to work in order to earn your room and board, then work to pay off your debt. My view on those who land themselves in prison is this: you landed yourself there, you now have the option to work your way out. Prisoners who refuse to work off their debt are not fed, clothed or sheltered. If they want to starve/freeze to death, they can make that choice, no one's forcing them to live. However, if they want to rejoin my society, they'll play by my society's rules.

I think most people are happy they dont live in my universe XD

I was seriously into drugs from the age of 14 - 22.  I'm proud to say I've been clean for 24 1/2 years now.  I truly believe if I had not gotten pregnant with my daughter just as I quit using, I would not have made it to the ripe age of 47.

I still have a drink on the weekend.  But I don't take any type of drugs - legal or otherwise.  OK, I had to take a couple of Tylenol the other night due to severe pain.  (If I'd had morphine, I would have been taking that instead.)

Nothing lasts forever, so live it up, drink it down, laugh it off, avoid the bullshit, take chances, & never have regrets, because at one point, everything you did was exactly what you wanted.

morphine scares me 'cuz I like it. Had it once in the ER. Anihilated the pain, and was, hands down, the best night sleep I've ever gotten in my life. And for an insomniac/stroke related migraine sufferer such as myself, that's something highly sought after. But I now have a prescription for another, less potent pain reliever, and thank the forces that be for pain relievers.

Apparently when my mother was in hospital for a hip replacement she was given morphine, and it gave her funkadelic dreams

My BFF told me about the morphine they gave her for her C-Section.  Man did that sound nice.  No pain and life is just too perfectly wonderful.

I get it on sleep.  I suffered from sleep deprivation for three years.  I was actually considering checking myself into a hospital so they could put me in a coma for a week, just so I could get some sleep.  Then people that have been in comas told me - it wasn't the same as sleeping.  Oh well.

I now take 5-HTP and sleep like a baby, but not drugged up like I feel when I take Melatonin.

I don't use drugs. I've tried marijuana. I guess it would be okay to legalize it.

Studies I have seen, supported by practical experience in the Netherlands, suggest that legalizing drugs makes them more available and increases use. Maybe not such a great idea with the more damaging drugs.

I do like alcohol tons. In moderation, it's a gift to life, makes for a relaxing evening or meal, takes the edge off a day's work, and is a great way to socialize. I find it easy to dial up/dial down. Thumbs up for booze.
To thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man.

I'm really, really sensitive....like ridiculously so. Strong smelling perfume....even the scent of it, can make my skin break out...so I'm kind of iffy about what I put into my body. Considering the crap they cut street drugs with to reduce the purity and make more sales off the same batch....I'd imagine it's for the best that I haven't. There were plenty of kids in my high school that were potheads, and the smell of marijuana clinging to a person is so oppressive and sweet....it's just not a smell that I can stand it. At the same time....I'm weird about injections. When I was about 15, I was sitting in a big, heavy wooden chair. I attempted to scoot it back, and instead it reared up and landed on my bare foot, crushing my poor toe. I ended up having to go to the podiatrist many, many times to have a resulting ingrown nail cut back before they finally just did laser surgery at the root. >< It was not fun. Anyway, they injected morphine at the source....and would have to put in 2 full shots for me not to feel it. >.> I dislike morphine for how long you have to sit with a needle stuck into you as it's slowly injected....and it's cold! >< Not to mention I bruise like a banana.

I do drink casually...but I've only gotten drunk enough to bow to the porcelain throne once. >< Which is why, besides the fact that I hate the taste, I avoid beer.

Drugs?
Yes please!

(Seriously, I've never used illegal substances, though I like a casual drink.)
