Yeah, that's cryptonia, and I think he is quite adorable in that image. There was a time when I didn't believe in censorship, but allowing anarchy, total chaotic freedom from limitations, creates problems. It becomes impossible to maintain a sense of emotional security when bullies are allowed to say what they please, how they please, to whomever they please without any consequences. I am learning how to set boundaries, having been victimized by those who said "don't censor me" when I asked them for mercy. Lawlessness is not the answer, although restrictions should always be protective rather than arbitrary. Snail is my username because I find it personally meaningful and symbolic. |

Leviathan was written during the English Civil War; much of the book is occupied with demonstrating the necessity of a strong central authority to avoid the evil of discord and civil war. Beginning from a mechanistic understanding of human beings and the passions, Hobbes postulates what life would be like without government, a condition which he calls the state of nature. In that state, each person would have a right, or license, to everything in the world.
