This is sort of a philosophy mix... but I have a feeling the conversation will quickly divert to focus on relationships, and school is mentioned in the subforum, so I dropped it here.

What do you guys... like... go to school for? What do you think it's main purpose is? Are you equally focused on the relationships with people there, as you are elsewhere, do you click into a learning-mode and truly process what's going on and try to analyze it and learn, or do you just kind of go moment by moment switching from one mindset to another?

er... in other words: You walk into school for your first day (let's make it a university, so you're old enough to not just be doing what you were told), and say to yourself "at the end of my time here, I hope I [fill in the blank]"

I go to learn. I want classes that actually stimulate my mind and make me excited to go. Rote memorization and being taught *at* instead of *to* by some droning professor going on and on, listening to him/herself talk makes me drag my feet and not really feel too motivated to go. I think I prefer classes with debate/discussion...then I can kind of toss around my own way of verbalizing the answer and don't have to feel closed in by a SINGLE RIGHT WAY.
I hated my geometry class - even though I showed my work and got the same answer, it wasn't the teacher's formula, so I'd get counted wrong. My formula was easier for me.

Sweet
I like school for stimulating my mind, for getting smarter and for the possibility of hearing others point of view on subjects of my interest
And from this september, to get smarter in the knowledge of reading people and using communication (gonna start reading communication and human interaction on university from 1st september)

When you get older you have to go to certification classes that have to do with your profession. There is a lot of memorization of rules and regulations. I couldn't stand it.

I have series 7 and Series 66 and failed the series 24.

Series 7 allows me to raise capital for deals, sell stocks, bonds, mutual funds, options etc.
Series 66 allows me to run a hedge fund and charge a fee for financial advise
The series 24 is a nightmare. You memorize rules and procedures for running an investment bank. Q: "after how many days to you have to notify the regulators that you have moved" A:"10" if you say 9 you are wrong.

IMHO university isn't for learning, its for getting that piece of paper with the best marks you can in order to secure the future that you want. Financial Security is the only reason I go to school, If I wish to learn something I can do it at my own pace on my own time on the topics that are interesting to me. However if I wish to learn a skill that will allow me time and money in order to pursue those goals I will go to a university.
