So here's how it is: I just started work at a smoothie shop (fun, oh yes)... but most of my co-workers are Sensors.... and they won't talk. I've noticed that Sensation and iNtuition differ on communication styles. If I want to get to know these people... how do I do it? How do I get them to open up?

Try to find mutual interests to talk about, rather than alternating between things you're interested in and they're interested in. Smile at them every time you see them - let them know you're a friendly nice person, even if you talk about weird confusing Ne stuff all the time

By the way, welcome (back?) to the forums - I've never seen you around before. It's nice to have you here

Sweet. I'll give that a try tomorrow. Yeah, I joined when this forum started up a few months ago, but have been "forumed-out" for a while. And so my magnificent return is official. Thanks for the welcome(back)

Try asking them "what they did" and "what they will be doing"

Ask them what they did on the weekend and do after work.

Perhaps even consider asking them if they'd like to do something

Depends on the S type, really. Like an ESTJ will really not be terribly pleased with you for chatting during work....and will let you know....with dirty looks and probably a 'talk' or 2.

Just a couple of key things to remember about the different ways Ns and Ss communicate....
1. Metaphors usually don't fly. A direct explanation usually works better. This is because intuition is about connections, but sensing is about patterns.
2. For the same reason, talking about future possibilities and your dreams tend to be met with the S humoring you at the very least. Because sensors are so concrete, their thinking is either in the past - as in, what happened before will happen again....or in the present. SPs especially live very much in the now - even considering the future can be stressful for them. For an SJ, doing something now is enough for the future - I'm working and saving money, so tomorrow is taken care of.
3. I've found the best way to get an S interested is to relate the conversation directly to them or someone they care about. I'd do something like randomly ask what their favorite body of water is and why....they might be perplexed at first, but I'd insist. Then I would announce that this is how they view sex. (of course when the manager and customers aren't around lol). ^_^ ENFPs and random work well together....and stuff like that works surprisingly well to start conversations..
