If you have a college grad at home mumbling about not being able to find a job, you may — or may not — want to share this report with them.
Apparently, the Big D is the third best city in the nation for college grads to find entry-level jobs even if the market for job hunters is tight. That’s according to a new survey published by Bloomberg-Businessweek.
But guess what? Houston beats Dallas, ranking No. 1 in the nation for recent college grads. Washington, D.C. secured the second place spot. The top 10 list also includes Austin (No. 5) and Fort Worth (No. 10).
So what helped Dallas gain the attention of entry-level job shoppers? According to the report, it's all the major corporations based here, including Texas Instruments, Southwest, American Airlines and Blockbuster. Yes, that's right, they even mention Blockbuster, despite all that's happened at Blockbuster as of late. I can just hear those entry-level interview subjects asking the interviewer: "So how long do you think you'll be around?"
Dallas also gets a thumbs up for securing Super Bowl XLV in 2011.
Another interesting stat: Dallas has an unemployment rate of 8.2 percent and an average annual pay of $44,640. And guess what kids? Working at Blockbuster is fun. You probably get a discount on movie rentals, for now at least.
