eww.... it's not often I'm surprised (and really, I've known a lot of parents like that, so I'm not 'really' surprised), but I wasn't expecting that in your situation. I'm soooooo sorry....
Thank you very much for answering still, though. I'm a whole lot less worried about making the same types of mistakes, at least.
I don't talk to my parents anymore either, really. It would take pages and pages to explain why, though, so I won't bury the thread in it. I do understand (at least to some small degree) what you're dealing with, though. I can only imagine how much harder it would be for an ENFP! It's times like this that make me a bit glad my brain is running linux .
Really sorry to hear that, though... I'll not ask any more questions unless you actually want to talk about it sometime. |

Haha, it's all right. It's just, there are so many things that are going wrong at the moment that I'm slightly overwhelmed. I have to remember that even if the light's tiny, it's still there.
Haha, running Linux? Reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend once about defragging my brain. It'd be so much easier to remember things. xD
Thanks. |

totally. haha I'm 100% open-source, baby . (grr... must... not... point out... unnecessarily....... aw, fuck it. Linux actually doesn't have a defrag. Defragging is a Windows feature meant to cover up poor underlying operating-system structure. *grumbles against windows*) |

xD Yeah, I thought it was something like that. It's advised against for Mac, since apparently it doesn't need it. |

yeah... I have more ethical complaints against Apple than I can write out too, though, lol. I don't really like Microsoft as a product (though I'm stuck with it a bit, since it's tough to get games running on linux), but I despite Apple as a company. That could spawn itself off into several threads, though.... which (if I remember) I may try to make when things get slow here. Since the activity has been extremely high today, though, it seems like a waste of a few possible conversation starters that could be used later. |

Ironically, by the fact that they sell their products based on pure style and 0 function XD.
They also treat their employees pretty poorly. Microsoft treats its employees well, but Apple is a really lousy place to work. CEO keeps lots of money for himself, doesn't pay very well, etc. Believe it or not, Bill Gates was (I've heard) really generous to his employees, and paid them quite well. Apple also plays a lot of dirty/frustrating tricks with its equipment. When you send your Mac into a store to get fixed, they physically cannot open it because Apple designs its products to only be opened by certain tools--which they don't sell. So the repair store you send your Mac to has to send it to an Apple repair store. Their adapters (power cord in particular) is also 100% impossible to find anywhere else. Or at least, it was for a long time... I think some bright people finally got around to reverse engineering it so they could make their own. Before, though, even adaptable power cords with multiple heads, meant to fit many types of laptops, didn't have a Mac attachment just for that reason.
It could spark some good debate about the ethical rights and responsibilities of a company... but at least for me, it's as simple as "my money is my vote in capitalism. I don't like them, so I won't vote for them."
I actually plan on buying the parts for my next computer and building it from scratch, then sticking linux on it so that I can't find any qualms about it . It's up in the air at this point... I may actually build a server instead. Maybe help Saul out with some of his server-hosting costs if I can make it fast enough to compete . Some of the INTPs are considering making an INxx forum, too, so it would be useful to have a server of our own. At this point that looks like at least several months in the distance, though. |

Thank you very much Esquilax! And no offense Cryptonia but I like my Mac. Have liked Macs since I had my first in '93. I think they have tons of functionality and I think of Microsoft as monopolizing the whole computer industry. Why should Mac have to do everything the way Microsoft does? I like their originality and I applaud them for standing by it. Plus, I love that my Macs have ever been slowed down or caused to crash by viruses. I have had both Macs and PCs and I prefer my pretty little Mac. Don't know too much though about their human relations though. I might have to research that some. From a humanitarian standpoint, I wouldn't feel right singing the praises of Apple if they treat their employees like proverbial crap. |

*nods*, haha I was just talking about when the two companies were starting up. I'm not sure what they're like now at all, but was just repeating what a programming professor said. Microsoft would do all sorts of sneaky things to their software, like sticking bugs in their programs when running on non-windows machines. Mac would pa its workers lousy and Steve Jobs (originally, at least) hoarded the money and paid his workers fairly lousily. I found them both pretty upsetting. Working-conditions-wise, I'm going off of word of mouth from other kids at my university, who have done internships for the two. lol danstar... I'm not sure why I would take offense to that? <--- INTP . I think you only read about half my post, though. I don't think Mac should do everything Microsoft does at all. I dislike them both, and very strongly prefer linux (which also doesn't freeze, or have viruses). Linux certainly isn't for everyone, though, because it has a really steep learning curve. It's intimidating to see a terminal (black screen where you type commands to the computer) is, and why something like "sudo rm -rf /*" will wipe your entire computer out. There are guides around, but forum trolls still like to cause trouble for people before they know what they're doing. Macs also still have the best media software (image/video editing stuff, if you're an artist), and Windows is still kind of necessary if you're a hardcore computer game fan. Linux is just very rapidly evolving, though, so it's my dream that someday this will change . |
