Do we know if these are traits that are passed down?

haha noo, I don't think so. My parents are ESTJ/ISTJ, and my brother is ENFP and I'm INTP. This question popped up on two other mbti forums, and the only real correlation that I can see is that parents who were types that are really controlling or critical or otherwise high-strung (ESFJs and all the xxTJs besides ISTJs, pretty much) tend to mass-produce NP kids. They seem to very, very rarely have sensors like themselves (maybe because they're just telling their kid what to do, so that the kids' minds can wander?), although there were some NJs in there, too. Overall, no N/S that I've seen, though.

Also not aware of any studies (though seems like a quick pubmed search would reveal them, or googlescholar)

for my N of 1, my mom is ESFP, dad INTJ (I know, match made in Heaven, right?) and I am ENFP and my brother is INFJ. So for us, it came out in this interesting quasi-Mendelian conglomeration.

>.> yay for diagrams! My mom and dad are ESTJ and ENFP. My brother and his wife are both INTJs. My oldest sister is an ISFJ who married (and kicked out) a cheating ES*P. My next oldest sister is an ESFJ, and I'm an ENFP.

My brother and his wife have 2 daughters and a son. The oldest girl is so IN*J is hysterical - she's an adorable little miniature mommy....and rather eloquent for a 6 year old, especially about her feelings. She hates being dirty and is just so dainty and sweet and girly hehehe. My brother's second daughter is usually off in dreamworld, oblivious to what's going on around her....and she's got a little bit of a temper. Their youngest I haven't spent enough time with to really know for sure - they live out of state and visit only a few times a year. It's a distinct possibility he's an INTJ too....he's only 4 and already has that cool, indifferent air about him. >.> But he's very decisive about what he wants.

My ISFJ sister has 4 children...and a more wild, crazy, loud group would be tough to find. I'm not 100% sure, but I'm fairly certain that her oldest is an ESTJ. >.> He's too blunt and oblivious to how he comes across to be a feeler...even when you explain to him that he was rude or hurtful. Her oldest daughter is a strong-willed, stubborn little hellion who is bound and determined to make her mother crazy...which makes me lean toward an unripened ENFP. If that's the case, then I'm fairly certain that her youngest daughter is an ISFJ like her mother. The dynamic between the 2 girls is similar to what it was with me and my sister....they're both stubborn in their own way and have volatile tempers. But the older of the girls is much more talkative and energetic...and usually the instigator of things. Not sure about the youngest....but he's most likely an E with his level of volume alone. He's either adorable or a brat. No in between. He'll either do something so cute and unexpected you just have to give him a hug....or he'll tear the wallpaper off the wall....or stare you down and dump his food on the floor intentionally with a look of defiance. >.>
