As long as a routine isn't mandatory ENFPs can enjoy them Well, I'm generalizing based on myself... I like routine. It gives me a platform from which it is safe to improvise...if that makes sense. And, I think your ideas are great! I've been meaning to do this myself....I haven't quite been able to make myself yet, but it is on the agenda to read and relax for half an hour before bed to calm myself down. If I keep planning on doing this I really will one of these days. The trick is to convince yourself that you really WANT to do the routine. It can't be chore-like in quality. If it becomes a chore I instantly rebel. |

Ha, here is another way to look at it: I like to break rules (safely, of course.) It is hard to break rules if there aren't any to begin with.....so let's create some! (and break them ) Ooh, I feel powerful now! |

Rule 1: Don't sleep. Ever. Rule 2: Don't ever read. Rule 3: Learning is for suckers, don't ever learn anything. Rule 4: Don't relax. Ever. Rule 5: Never take time for yourself. Ever. |

^^ Have you tried some sort of routine, like reading 20 pages before going to bed or listening to something on Pandora for awhile?
I know, I know. I just mentioned "routines" to an ENFP, but hey, it might help calm your brain down some to sleep.
HAHAHAHA.....reading 20 pages!?!?!? Like that would EVER happen!! If I even think I'm going to settle myself down by reading a book it'll be 3am and I'll be so engrossed in whatever said novel my nose currently is in that I won't stop until I've finished! Trust me, I've finished off 1,000+ page novels in a day because of this.........
It's the whole ENFPs have no concept of moderation |

Okay, how about this...once you've read no more than 50 pages, an INTJ will walk into your room and start talking to you about math or random atomic structures? If you haven't fallen asleep before the 50 pages is up, I'm sure we can get you to bed eventually. |

Ahh, but PG, be forewarned I'm a *very* nerdy ENFP. I was up last week all night reading a non-fiction book on history of fear in epidemics......you'd have to really be crafty to find an INTJish topic that would lull me to sleep.
I'd be more keen to passing out from boredom listening to a bunch of ESxx's bitch and gossip --- can anyone say reality television??? |

Ooooh, that would definitely do it!!! HAHA. However, I'd probably then sit and wonder at why some individuals would find this sport engaging.....and we're back to square one!
Though thankfully my insomnia has seemed to calm down a bit lately. Likely because I'm done with the latest round of job interviews (in academia....they're ridiculous), so my stress levels have leveled off a bit. Now it's the waiting game, hence why I'm up reading half the night. I've found that being an ENFP I need to do something to forget about something else but the thing I am doing is often counter-productive. Stress = insomnia --> reading to combat stress = up all night reading. It's a catch-22. I just have to be disciplined enough to force myself to stop reading and go to bed. Luckily the job schedule I am currently in allows me to sleep in!!! YAY!

yeah i have heaps of trouble getting to sleep, i'd say 45mins to an hour would be the average time i need. I'm also a light sleeper so i wake up pretty often. Unless i am doing something physical during the day i feel lethargic as a result, probably because my brain just wont switch off! Energy management is something i havent yet mastered thats for sure. I've tried going to bed earlier, later, reading etc and none of that has worked. Doing a lot of physical activity so that i am physically tired seems to help a bit. Reading really doesnt help, it just activates my imagination. plus if i am reading something good i cant just spend a few minutes on it i end up losing track of time. i do get up pretty early for work as well, and i dont have much trouble getting up. weekends are a different story though! |

Okay, INTJ will come in and talk to you about golf. Then, you will both be so bored that you'll pass out. Win - win.

@Boork, I'm in academic health sciences librarianship....or I guess I'm hoping to get into that field! I just got out of graduate school last year and it's been a brutal job market. I've gotten lots of phone and on-site interviews, but have yet to land a job. I've got two outstanding interviews that I'm waiting to hear back from, so we'll see!! |

Sleep walked as a child often, also had night terrors when I was young. I have always had very vivid dreams and can usually return to my dreams if I can keep from becoming too alert when I first awaken. Now I don't have problems getting to sleep, but I have issues staying asleep. I have a habit of waking up before the alarm goes off which drives me insane. I can't sleep in on weekends, I try every chance I get though. |
