Nadette asked what I listen to. The answer is not simple in the least little bit, unless I brute force list all artists and soundtracks in my library. This is an out of date list; I've since added about twenty artists to the list.

Highlighted items have slightly greater precedence in my playlists, but everything gets listened to on a regular basis. Also note that if it looks relatively common (Dido or Sarah Mclachlan come to mind), I'm probably listening to trance remixes, and therefore it is not. Luminary and Smith & Pledger are underlined because I can listen to those for hours and probably qualify as favorites, but I dont' pick those.

Aalto, Above & Beyond, ABS, Activa, Adam Nickey, Afrocelt Sound System, Agnelli & Nelson, Ah! My Goddess, Akhenaton, Albert Ayler, Amoeba, Amon Tobin, Andain, Andy Hunter, Anne, Apocalyptica, Apollo Four Forty, Apoptygma Berzerk, Armik, Armin van Buuren, Arrakis, Art of Trance, Ascension, Astral Projection, ATB, Atrium, Aurosonic, Ayumi Hamasaki, Azad, Bangkok, Barber, Basement Jaxx, Bassrace, Beastie Boys, The Beatles, Beethoven, Berg, Berio, Bessie Smith, Blutengel, Bone Thugs 'N Harmony, Bosco, Brahms, Brain in a Box, Breath Frequency, BT, Carl Douglas, Carla Vallet, Catalyst, Chakra, Charlie Parker, Cheb Khalid, Chemical Brothers, Chic, Chicane, Choying Drolma, Chris Botti, Clanger, Rebecca Clarke, Copeland, Cowboy Bebop, Crazy Town, Crumb, The Crystal Method, D-Flame, DAF, Darude, Das Ich, Dazz Band, Debussy, Deep Forest, Deftones, Delerium, Depeche Mode, Detsl, Dido, Different Gear vs The Police, DJ Cheb I Sabbah, DJ JEan, DJ Nathan Profitt, Kabalevsky, Don Davis, The Doobie Brothers, DragonForce, Havannah, Duderstadt, Earth Wind & Fire, Ebara Masashi, Edison, Elgar, Emiliana Torrini, Emily Bidinger, The Engine Room, Enigma, Enya, Evanescence, Fat Boy Slim, Feldman, Ferry Corsten, Fictivision vs C-Quence, Filo, Firestorm, Firewall, Fluke, Fourplay, Frase & Koto, Front 242, Front Line Assembly, Full Intention, Futureman, Gabriel & Dresden, Gabriela Robin, George Antheil, George Clinton, Global Warming, Govi, Graeme Revell, Groove Armada, Groovemaster 303, Gareth Emery, Haddaway, Hamaguchi Shirou, Hans Zimmer, Haris C vs Digitalis, Hassan Bohmide, Henry Cowell, Hiroshima, Hooverphonic, Howard Shore, Huun Huur Tu, Hybrid, I Ching, Ilaria Graziano, Incubus, Indigo Spirit, Iron & Wine, Charles Ives, James Horner, Jamiroquai, Jarre, Jelly Roll Morton, Jenny Dalton, Jesse Cook, Joe Hisaishi, John Cage, John Coltrane, John O' Callaghan, John Powell, John Zorn, Judge Jules, Jun Chiki Chikuma, Juno Reactor, Justine Suissa, Karsh Kale, Kasta, Keny Arkana, The King's Singers, Kirsty Hawkshaw, Klaus Badelt, Koji Kondo, Kool Savas, Korn, Kosheen, Kyau vs Albert, Ladytron, Laibach, Lange, LCD Soundsystem, LDC, Leama & Moor, Leftfield, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Loreena McKennitt, Los Super Seven, Louis Armstrong, Love Hina, Luminary, M, Mahoraba, Mahoroba, Mai Yamane, Man With No Name, Mannheim Steamroller, Maor Levi, Marc Dorsa, Mark Soskin, Martin O'Donnell, Masaaki Endo, Masayoshi Furukawa, Masters & Nickson, The Matrix 1-3, Matt Hardwick, MC Solaar, Meat Beat Manifesto, Medicine Drum, MELL, Mendelssohn, Metallica, Mirco de Govia, Mirror's Edge, Misja Hesloot, Transa, Moby, Moogwai, Mozart, Mortal Kombat, Mr. Sam, Mu-ziq, Mussorgsky, Myth, Nelly, New York Musicians, Nicely, Nickel Creek, No Doubt, O' Jays, Oceanlab, Orbital, Orjan Nielsen, Ornette Coleman, Outkast, Owen Clark, Oxide & Neutrino, P.O.D., Pale 3, Parliament, Passiva, Paul Oakenfold, Paul van Dyk, The People Under The Stairs, Perlman, Peter Gabriel, Philip Glass, Plaid, Plastikman, POB, Poltergeist, Power of Seven, Prokofiev, Propellorheads, Purple Shroud, Queen, Quietman, Rachmaninoff, Rammstein, Rapid Eye, Ravel, Ravi Shankar, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Reflekt, Reynada Hill, Riva, Rob Dougan, Robert Gitelman, Robert Miles, Robert Nickson & Daniel Kandi, Rock Steady Crew, Ronski Speed, Rusch & Murray, Safri Duo meets Ayla, Saint-Saens, Sakupen, Salamander, Sandler, Sarah Hopkins, Sarah McLachlan, Sasha, Satie, Schoenberg, Scott Joplin, Sean Paul, Seatbelts, Second Sun, Sequentia, The Servant, Sholan, Shostakovich, Sigur Ros, Simon & Garfunkel, Slusnik Luna, Smashing Pumpkins, Smith & Pledger, Solid Sessions, Sonorous, Soundtracks, Stargaze, Steve Reich, Sting, Strange Cargo, Stranglers, Strauss, Stravinsky, Sunny Lax, Super 8 & Tab, Sydney Thiam, Talla 2XLC, Tan Dun & Yo-Yo Ma, Tarkan, Tchaikowsky, Team Sleep, Technossomy, Temple One, Tenthu, Teriyaki Boyz, Terry Riley, Thrillseekers, Tobias Enhus ft. Um, I like Muse?...

Oh. My. Word. I just realized this whole list is alphabetized. And, I don't recognize a lot of these artists. But wait! You like minimalism?!! Reich, Riley, *looks for Glass* (which is easy to do since the list is alphabetized.) Oh, I can't find him. Probably because he is actually sort of popular. Seriously though, Hans Zimmer? He's even high-lighted? I mean, he is an impressive composer, but he is hopelessly popular... Mmm, I approve Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich. You should have high lighted Ravel....not that I actually have any classical composers in regular rotation to begin with... So, do you just keep a running list going in Word or something that you can easily access when the need arises? Or, did you just make this list and then alphabetize it on the spot? Ha, Varese? Love. You wouldn't happen to be a music major would you? Maybe took a music history IV class as an elective? Also, are the artists I don't recognize mostly trance? That is a genre I am completely and utterly unfamiliar with.

Ehhh, I pulled this list a while ago for a friend who was interested, and it's just sat around on my hard drive; it's alphabetized because that's how I pulled it out, and it's easier to find something you're looking for when alphabetized. I happen to be a classically trained musician, although I don't keep up with it as much now that I'm getting into my career in science, and yes, I do like minimalism, because it has a lot in common with trance and the like. It's a tad surprising to me that Glass is missing on this list, because I have some of that sitting around too. I'd say maybe a quarter of the artists are trance artists, but a fair bit of this stuff is multi-ethnic in nature, like my collection of European rap, or my buddhist relaxation musics. There's also all that movie music in there, but that's just because the reason I like movies in the first place is inherently tied to the music. You can have all the crappy acting and stupid gimmicks you want in a movie, if I like the music, then I'll like the movie.

I like minimalism too, but I couldn't tell you why (surprise, surprise.) Maybe because it is just different. I like to hear things I've never heard before. I also really enjoy the whole electronic music movement...Musique Concrete and all that. It is pretty fascinating.

Ok, so I started this post because I wanted to ask what kind of musician you were/are. What is your instrument?

I started on the piano, then I switched to the viola. Nowadays I mostly compose when the whim strikes me, and every once in a while I'll play with my siblings. We make a string quartet, piano quintet if you include my mom.

Awww, that is really picturesque and cute! I wish my family played string quartets together. Actually, I know a music professor who had a young family that started their children on violin and him and his wife took up cello and viola so they could play family string quartets and stuff.

So you're saying you're either obtaining or have obtained a degree in music.

Well, you hinted at it like there's no tomorrow. Making inferences is one of the easier things that comes to me.

Yeah, I guess I did. It was kind of awkward. I didn't want you to end up bragging a lot and then feeling stupid later. My musicness has been elaborated in other threads, so it seemed redundant to spell out. That said, I'm sure you are probably a much more accomplished musician than me. I was good enough to be an ed major, but that isn't saying much. I did not grow up in a musical family.

I am not currently able to listen to your link due to my location. Get back to you later.

You.

-prods with stick-

Stop making assumptions. You couldn't possibly make me feel stupid. If you're going to make assumptions, assume equal skill level and accomplishment until you actually know something.

Now I will do this:

And you will do the same.

You're pretty cute yourself, Sakari. Invisibility hat?

Optimaler: First of all, ok - Also, I was able to listen to your link. It is very chill. I like it. So, is this an example of what you like to listen to? Is this trance? Who is the artist? You, perhaps?

*blush is hidden by invisibility hat* Why thank you, Nadette. And yes, a hat, because it's far easier than a cloak. I'm not even sure how you wear those things. Plus, the hat gives full functionality.

Goodness, I wish I made that track. I'd be rolling in cash. It's written by Luminary, and yes it's trance.

I'll think about putting my work on here sometime.....
