This may have already been a topic in the past, but I'm interested.  Plus there are tons of new people.  Where did you get the inspiration for your screen name?  Or, your avatar for that matter?

It's my middle name ( given to me by my INTJ dad who must have been intuitively inspired ), and that's me at work.

Hmmmmm, optimaler is German for "optimal".

I drew my avatar last year some time, then I modded it and added glow effects when I saw Tron last week.

I was trying not to over-think names and just went with the first strange juxtaposition of words that popped into my head. I was feeling whimsical. I then created a really funky purple giraffe avatar, but my artistic ability isn't so...um...great, so I didn't post it. I eventually settled on Pascal because he captures my angry stare pretty well. I don't have the angry stare very much anymore, but I liked the homage.

What a lovely inspiration, Caprice!

Really? Are you German? Nadette is actually German too. It means brave bear. I am a little German, but Nadette being German isn't why I picked it.

I drew my avatar last year some time, then I modded it and added glow effects when I saw Tron last week.

Wow, you are an artist! I like it; very cool. (How was Tron? Worth seeing? Campy enough?)

I was trying not to over-think names and just went with the first strange juxtaposition of words that popped into my head.
So great! And, I like your avatar Is your angry stare that cute?

So, I chose Nadette because I wanted to remain anonymous and therefore couldn't use anything meaningful to me because I am an ENFP and blah, blah, blah all my ideas and characters and such to whoever will listen. I found Nadette in my baby name book (yes, I have one and get made fun of for it, but it is so great for naming characters and inanimate objects! And names are cool. Kind of like words.) and liked it because it meant brave bear. I am brave....and not at all scary, intimidating, or strong....but I would like to be. Sometimes. As for my avatar, I just like Van Gogh and I thought his mulberry bush kind of looked like my brain. ...and sadly, that is not my original thought. I was sort of inspired by a blog I found that said pretty much the same thing.

Sorry but the word for "optimal" is... "optimal". (I am German, i must know )

"optimaler" means "more optimal"- "am optimalsten" would be "most optimal" - but it is arguable how something can be more than optimal^^
I find it still fits the INTJ characteristic very much - other people do it optimal - you do it more than optimal.

German and English are very much related languages. Lots of the English language comes from old Germanic words - as well as from French and Latin words.
For example, there are three words for "kingly":

"Kingly" - coming from the old English word "king"
"royal" - coming from French
"regal" - coming from the Latin word "rex, regis", which means king

Now it's interesting that the old English words are used in "normal" speech, the French word are used if you want to give it a "royal, aristocratic" touch and the Latin words are more formal/scientific...

But i am getting carried away

My Screen name is... my name (Jan) - some of my friends actually named me "The Jan" as i am very individual - like there is only one of me, making me "The" Jan.
I don't have an avatar... yet.

xD I...found my name while looking for Eskimo dog names to name my Foopet. [Do not judge. *glare* xD] I got bored with the pet within the hour and decided I really liked the name, so I'd keep it...started using it, and then somehow managed to find out that "Sakari" is a male Finnish name. >.> So I tried out "sakarin" [y'know, like "saccharine," except my inner spell-check rebelled] and decided, to heck with stereotypes, I liked the name. I've heard it sounds very Asian, so I guess it fits me? xD

Previously, my avatar was a fractal. Now it's me. So, uh. Yeah. *hands microphone to next person*

I'm just quoting what google tells me.

Oh, and I'm cheap as free for avatar creation, but no one has asked me for my services in that field for quite some time now.

My screen name (that I use as my internet identity) sorta just cam to me when I needed to improvise a title for my first web forum. I liked the words "Savage Brain" together because it signified my wild way of thinking, like my brain is that of a vast and vicious jungle.

The avatar that I'm using here is Mello from the Death Note anime/manga series, who also happens to be an ENFP.

TheJan: Great inspiration! So is the "J" pronounced like "J" or "Y"? Is "the" pronounced "thee" or "thuh"? These questions consume me every time I see you on the forum

Sakari sounds Asian because it sounds like Sakura. ...uhoh *starts humming again*

You should make a purple giraffe for PurpleG!

A savage brain, what a great image! I like.

My screen name came into existence when I was trying to come up with a name for my first character in WoW.. My brother had Rothelen, so I wanted something that started with "R". I then decided that "O" was the most easily used vowel. After testing out the sounds of a few other consonants, I came around to "G". I just kept sounding out the world, plugging in new letters to try to find the best fit. Wa la, Rogarn was born.

As for my avatar, I have always had a fixation with the starcraft protoss. I have always seen them as the perfection of that which i wish to be. They are the ultimate skilled warrior, having perfected their art, clad in but the most sophisticated armor available.

What a scientific approach. If and when you have children, will you name them in a similar manner?

hey yo'll. I'm back from holidays (sigh), so you might see some more posts from me. Ahh... summer holidays... I had such a good time... (sigh again) why did it have to end... *breaks out of day dream and realises I was going to say something*

Yeah, I picked my actual name for my screen name. Couldn't think of any other tricky alias at the time. And I though it'd be kinda alright to use my actual name.

Here's another question! Which folks do you reckon have the best sounding user names? And best avatars?

Stripes - great avatar, and fits well in with your username. 10 points to you. Nadette's painting is pretty cool. Caprice - nice pick of picture, and you've got a nice sounding middle namel. Sakari - cool name. freeeekyyy's avatar is cool. bit funny and quirky. Typing in that username must get annoying after awhile. The INFJ's I find have pretty cool usernames - reflective and descriptive. And everyone else, I love your usernames and avatar as well (can you tell I'm an F?).

I probably would name my children like that, but I don't know if my wife would le me do something like that. She'd probably do a very fast veto of that idea.

Aww, I suspect she would at least hear you out with good humor. Then add her strong opinion or possibly put a bizzare creative twist on the whole process....assuming you find an ENFP.

That was how I named my characters when I used to write fantasy. xD Although kinda different--sometimes I'd look around and cull a bunch of letters from the objects I saw around me and rearrange them. I was quite proud of the monstrous "thilabredallia" and planned to use it as a curse word of sorts--it was so fun to say. xD
